Welcome to Bishop Wilton Parish Council.

Bishop Wilton  Parish Council consist of 9 councillors  who are democratically accountable to the electorate of the parish. The Parish Council is the first tier of local government.

The councillors are elected for a four year term, the next election being May  2027.

The overriding duty of the Council is to the whole community, but they have a specific duty to their electors including those who did not vote for them.

Local councils work towards improving community well-being and providing better services. Their activities fall into three main categories: representing the local community; delivering services to meet local needs; striving to improve quality of life and community well-being.

Through an extensive range of discretionary powers local councils provide and maintain a variety of important and visible local services including allotments, bridleways, burial grounds, bus shelters, car parks, commons and open spaces, community transport schemes, community safety and crime reduction measures, events and festivals, footpaths, leisure and sports facilities, litter bins, public toilets, planning, street cleaning and lighting, tourism activities, traffic calming measures, village greens and youth projects.

The council also alerts relevant authorities to problems that arise or work that needs to be done in the parish and helps other tiers of local government to keep in touch with their local communities. All are committed to adhering to the Member Code of Conduct proposed by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, details of which can be found on the Finance and Asset Page under Policies and Regulations.

The administration of the Parish Council is managed by our Parish Clerk, Mrs Sandra Morrison who is a paid, part-time employee of the Parish Council and who performs both the statutory roles of Secretary and Finance Officer of the Parish Council. As part of her role she provides procedural guidance for the Parish Council and ensures that statutory and other provisions governing or affecting the running of the Parish Council are fully observed; is responsible for enacting the decisions of the Parish Council and for receiving and issuing official correspondence on their behalf, and is the formal point of contact for any matter you wish to raise with the Parish Council.  Mrs Morrison can be contacted at bishopwiltonclerk@gmail.com  or 01262 470496
